In Memory

Elizabeth Dramcyzk (Hall)

3-1-1938 to 7-15-2023

Elizabeth Anne “Betty” Wassum Hall (JHS Class of 1956), of Terre Haute, Indiana, died Saturday, June 15, 2023, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Betty spent most of her life in Jenkins, Ky., but for the past two years had lived with her surviving daughter in Terre Haute.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Gary B. Hall, her daughter Lorie Ann Thompson, her parents, Robert H. Wassum Sr. and Edith Elizabeth Wassum, her brothers, Joseph C. Wassum and Robert H. Wassum Jr., and her sister, Mary Irene Lampe.

She was survived by her daughter, Martha (Joe) Milner of Terre Haute, Ind., sons Allen (Rhoda) Hall of Troy, Mich., and Dean (Theda) Hall of Macclenny, Fla., and son-in-law Jackie (Liz) Thompson of Lexington, Ky.; grandsons Drew (Whitney) Hall and Jordan (Hannah) Hall, both of Macclenny, Fla., and Brandon (Laura) Hall of Troy, Mich.; granddaughters Jacie Thompson of Pendleton, Ind., and Emily (Chris) Thompson of Terre Haute, Ind.; great-grandchildren Holden Hall, Tinsley Hall, Blayne Hall, Foxton Hall, Logan Hall, Lillian Hall, and Leia Thompson; and many extended and beloved family members and friends.

Betty graduated from Jenkins (Ky.) High School and Berea College. She also attended Cumberland College for two years before attending Berea. She taught high school English and French for 35 years, spending the last 30 years of her career at Jenkins High School. For several years before and after retirement, she kept the books for her husband’s welding business. She was a lifelong Christian and was a member of Payne Gap (Ky.) Freewill Baptist Church. While in Terre Haute, she attended Centenary United Methodist Church.

She was extremely talented at sewing and various crafts. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and knitting the most, but was also skilled in making lace by tatting, canning vegetables and preserves, cooking, and pretty much anything else she decided to try. She took up genealogy more than 50 years ago and loved researching the branches of her and her husband’s families. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family — her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11 am until 12 pm Friday, July 21, 2023, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Hollis Bevins officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton.

Memorials may be made in her name to God’s Love from a Diaper Bag, 9757 Hwy. 805 Main Street, Jenkins, KY 41537, or the Isaiah 55:1 lunch at Centenary United Methodist Church, 301 7th St., Terre Haute, IN, 47807.
