Charles Samuel (Sam) DePriest - Class Of 1958

  Charles Samuel “Sam” DePriest, age 76, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on December 12, 2015 at his home.  He was born on April 27, 1939 in Burdine, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Sam worked as a coal miner for many years at Bethlehem Steel and at Sunglow for several years before he retired.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and spent three years in Hanau, Germany.  Sam was a member of the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church, the Jenkins American Legion Post 66 and the United Mine Workers of America.  He greatly enjoyed bluegrass music and worked hard to keep his grandchildren when he could after his retirement. 

   Sam was a son of the late Carl Roy DePriest and Velva Shook DePriest.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Depriest.

   Sam is survived by his wife, Vivian Lowe DePriest, of Jenkins, Kentucky; two sons, Todd Samuel DePriest, of Jenkins, Kentucky, and Donald Clayton DePriest (Catherine), of Jenkins, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Allison, Katie, Jesse and Clay; a sister, Alice Stallard (Jim), of Jenkins, Kentucky; two brothers, Jack DePriest (Audrey), of Bristol, Virginia, and Joe DePriest (Brenda), of Jenkins, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   Visitation will be held on Monday December 14, 2015 from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 15, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the church, with Joe DePriest officiating.  Interment will follow at Jenkins-Payne Gap Cemetery, Payne Gap, Kentucky.
