Curtiss was invited to the University of Kentucky to try out as a walk on in football.  After graduating from UK he worked for the federal government as a postal worker in Lexington.  Later he transferred to Social Security as a area representive and wa later promoted to Washington, DC.

He passed away at the age of 65 due to complicaions from cancer.
