Ms. Smith was my grade school and middle school teacher. I admired her from the beginning. She was a tough teacher, but good to all her students. She was able to communicate with us on our level. After graduating high school I kept in touch with Betty. I even visited her the last summer she was alive. I was able to tell her at that time, how much she meant to me as my teacher, and mentor, and that I probably never would have gone on to college without her help. I can still see her standing in the classroom with her beautiful clothes (pink and wine colors), her beautiful dark skin and hair, and her gentle spirit. I shall always remember her this way.
