After graduating from JHS in 1988, I attended Union College for one semester and played football. In 1989, I transferred to Morehead State University, where I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in 1992.
In 1993 I attended the Kentucky State Police Academy, and after graduation I was assigned to the Dry Ridge Post. I transferred to the Hazard Post in 1999, where I have remained since and have been assigned to Letcher County. I am now a Master Trooper, with specialized training in Accident Reconstruction, Defensive Tactics Instruction, and as a Field Training Officer. I transferred to the Governor's Security Detail (Executive Security) in November 2010 and will likely remain there until I retire.
I am the proud father of two wonderful children, Lindsay and Peyton. I also had the privilege of being an assistant coach for JHS under Mark Johnson in 2007, when the team made the playoffs.

School Story:

I have so many great memories from the days I spent at JHS. I enjoyed most of the teachers I had, and I count several of them, along with my track coach Charlie Dixon, as great influences in the way I have lived my life. I think the days spent at track practice under Mr. Dixon's watchful eye, and the many travels across the entire state of KY and parts of VA made us become the determined and dedicated young men that would not back down from bigger and more prestigious schools, and then beat them more often than not. The days on the football field were tough, as we started each year with a different head coach and staff, and often did not even have enough players to have 11-on-11 practices. We were a band of brothers each year, though, and even though the records may not have shown it, we felt that we were as talented as most of the teams we played. We had each other's backs, and we played as hard as we could each play, and at the end of every game, we knew we had left it all out on the field. I played basketball my senior year only, but I enjoyed it. We had a winning season, but we felt like we left business unfinished by losing in the District when there's no doubt we were the better team. All in all, I look back on those days as some of the best memories I've had in life. I enjoyed being a part of the Key Club, also under Mr. Dixon's directive, as we handed out food baskets to needy families during the holidays. We had trash clean-ups, along with projects to make the city of Jenkins more pleasant to look at. I feel like the sports I played, along with the Key Club activities, contributed to my being able to stay away from trouble, which is often hard to do in small towns. I wouldn't trade those days for anything.
