Eddie and I had our 30th anniversary on January 31 and he died the following Friday, February 4, 2000. He was diagnosed in 1997 with heart problems that had destroyed 85% of his heart muscle. His heart simply gave out that morning. He served his country in the Air Force in Turkey, VietNam and Germany. We settled in Wise in 1974. He worked in the mines for several years and went on to become a Master Electrician and was able to work a few years more in home construction before his heart condition worsened. We were able to spend the first three or so years of our marriage together in Germany. Having left family behind and with no children to turn our time and attention to, we came to depend so very much on each other and I guess we kind of spoiled each other. Eddie gave his life to the Lord around 1994 and was a member of Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church in Wise at the time of his death. He was a good husband. He gave me a happy life and he left me with a lot of wonderful memories. While time has worked its magic and it's easier now, I still miss him.

How do you put down in words the tragedy Uncles (Eddie) passing has been? Although we know he is with our Lord a void has been left in my sisters life that will never be filled. I truly believe she and Uncle were the proverable soul mates. My heart has ached for her since the morning I got her call and knowing she will never be complete without him, it continues to do so. Uncle was a truly kind person. One who nurtured my son like he was his own. It is, in fact, that child who coined him 'Uncle' having spent so much time with him and his Aunt Peggy he didn't even know Eddie had an actual name! The times Uncle tolerated so much from so many and aided so many people over the years is unbelievable. We speak of him often and relive the happy times of camping, cook-outs and overnight visits. The world needs more people like Charles Edward "Eddie" Hale.
