Wednesday 29th of September 1948 Friday 18th of February 2022

Sondra Lynn Mabe Greer, 73, Lexington, formerly of Jenkins, KY, passed away Friday morning, February 18, 2022, after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Charlotte and French C. Mabe Jr. and sister of the late French C. Mabe III (Frenchie). Sondra is survived by her husband of over 51 years, James Oakie Greer Jr.; two sons Richard Jason Greer (Brian Tierney) of Orlando, FL and Jeremy French Greer (Jenny) of Richmond, KY; her special unofficially adopted son, Adrian Garza of Orlando and three grandchildren who were the lights of her life, Connor, Madison and Makenzie Greer of Richmond. Sondra is also survived by an aunt, Ginny Davis of Williamson, WV and an uncle, Bill Mabe of Tucson, AZ along with cousins from West Virginia and Arizona; as well as sisters-in-law, Annie Brush and Saundra Greer of Lexington and brother-in-law William Greer (Marion) of Somerset and her two constant companions, fur-baby Havashons, Gracie and Callie. She loved spending time with Jason, Brian and Adrian in Orlando and especially loved having Jeremy and the grandkids around her.

Sondra was a graduate of Jenkins High School, class of 1966 and Morehead State, class of 1970. Sondra was a  Chi-Omega and was a member of the founding class of Chi-O’s at Morehead where she formed life-long bonds with her ‘sisters’ Mary Ann Stagnaro, Jane Martin, Sally Balkcum, Sharon Smith, Amy Simpson, Laurel Jane Gray, Martha Campbell, Alexa Cornett and the late Mary Jo Netherton. Sondra looked forward with great joy and anticipation to their annual trips to the beach. She was deeply saddened by not being able to make the trip last year for the first time in fifteen years, due to her illness.

Sondra spent more than twenty-five years as a Legal Secretary, Systems Administrator and Office Manager for the law firms of Landrum and Shouse and the Lexington office of Woodward Hobson.

Sondra’s happy place was on a golf course or the beach. She was an avid golfer until back issues robbed her of that beautiful swing. She was a member of Spring Valley Golf Club for 25 years. She often said some of her fondest life memories were made at Spring Valley with her special golf buddies Sandy Ball, Judy Henry and Ellen Jennelle.

Sondra was a member of Southern Hills United Methodist Church, having followed Pastor Jim Nichols from Andover. She also spent many years at Trinity Hills U.M.C.

Visitation and funeral service will be at Milward-Man O’ War, 1509 Trent Blvd, Lexington. Burial will follow at the Greer Family Cemetery in Jenkins, KY.

The Family would like to offer a special thanks to Bluegrass Care Navigators (Hospice), Tabitha, Nettie and especially Amy for the care and compassion they provided during these last months.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Kentucky United Methodist Youth Children's Home or the Lexington Rescue Mission.
