Virginia Anne Gilley Childers, age 57, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday May 10, 2014 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky.  She was born on June 11, 1956 at Jenkins, Kentucky and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ms. Childers loved to travel, especially to beaches, and her favorite place to visit was Myrtle Beach.  She greatly enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, and was a noted fan of the University of Kentucky basketball team.  Ms. Childers was of the Christian Faith.

   She was a daughter of the late Lester and Bessie Sexton Gilley.  She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Garren Childers and a sister, Paula Artrip.

   Survivors include her partner of over 25 years, Joe Powers, of Wise, Virginia; a daughter, Sherry (Leonard) McNew, of Duffield, Virginia; two sons, Michael (Jessica) Childers, of Deane, Kentucky, and Patrick Childers, of Jenkins, Kentucky; a sister, Patricia (Joe) Rowe, of Jenkins, Kentucky; five brothers, Palmer (Kim) Gilley, Timothy Gilley, both of Dayton, Ohio, Jerry Gilley, of Norton, Virginia, Daniel (Teresa) Gilley, of Jenkins, Kentucky, and Ernest Gilley, of Winchester, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Michael “Cody” Childers, Heather Childers, Kayla Childers, Cliftonna Childers, Israel Childers and Peyton McNew; her former husband, Pat Childers; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. 

   Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 14, 2014 after 6:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel, Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 15, 2014 at 11:00 at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel with Van Webb officiating.
