In Memory

French Mabe - Class Of 1971

I first met "Frenchie" in the first grade and we hit it off immediately and stayed best friends all through school and graduation.  Of course we went in different directions after school but kept in touch.  He died while on a fishing trip with his father in Tennessee.  Since he my first classmate who passed away it became my first reality check that we were not immortal.  Frenchie fit in with any crowd and usually became the center of attention even though he did not plan it that way.  He showed me what a true "magnetic" personality was.

Frenchie's parents and mine were close friends and he and I grew up together. He was my best friend. Some of my best high school memories were of times with Frenchie.

I can recall Frenchies smile as if it were yesterday. We weren't associated outside our school activities other than my baby-sitting job next door to his family. It was during one of those jobs where the child was playing outdoors while I leaned against the back of a car and Frenchie and I were simply talking when I fainted. No warning...simply fainted. When I awoke Frenchie was kneeling beside me along with his dad keeping an eye on my charge while parents were arriving to claim their appropriate offspring. He never mentioned the incident afterward. The mark of a true gentleman if you ask me.

Frenchie and I were like brothers we did everything together, Church,School and of course ran around all the time having fun. We even went to College together and had the same classes, imagine that. I can't believe he is gone and I still miss him to this day, think about him often. We had a blast growing up just good clean fun.

Frenchie and I grew up together as next door neighbors in Mudtown. 30 + years after his passing I still miss him and think of him often. Rest in peace my friend.
